Program Description

For many people, transgender issues within an educational context are new territory. Kai brings an open and friendly approach to provide a session that aims to be highly interactive and engaging. Participants will be introduced to concepts of gender diversity as well as the unique challenges and barriers faced by transgender people (whether fellow administrators, faculty, or students). The session will also provide opportunities to apply language and principles to common scenarios involving trans people as a way to practice respectful and supportive interactions and navigate challenging and complex issues.

What You Will Learn

Attendees are expected to have the following outcomes from the session, including:

  • Increased knowledge of and familiarity with gender identity concepts and terms
  • Greater understanding of the challenges and barriers transgender people face when accessing gendered spaces, programs, and systems
  • Increased comfort and proficiency in navigating complex issues and respectful interactions involving transgender people

About Your Facilitator

Kai Scott is a trans man and social scientist with over 10 years of experience, educated in the field of International Development. Kai supports organizations in exploring and reimagining challenges related to gender. He does so through exploratory, evidence-based approaches using a range of quantitative and qualitative tools, including user-generated information, stakeholder engagements, and/or spatial analyses. He meets organizations where they are at and engages in transparent decision-making processes that allow maximum buy-in from diverse stakeholders at various levels of the organization. He helps de-mystify the topic of gender diversity in a reassuring manner, inspiring confidence, new vistas, and excitement.
