PD Fund Announcement from UBC HR

Please find below a letter from Susanna Mulligan on behalf of UBC Human Resources, regarding the current state of the Professional Development Fund Program for the current quarter.

On Oct. 1, 2012, UBC Human Resources released  the 3rd quarter (25%) of the annual M&P Professional Development Fund budget, the purpose of which is to reimburse M&P staff development activities starting within the Period 3 Oct. 1 – Dec. 31, 2012, time frame.

As of Oct 29, the fund has a positive balance of roughly $20,000 available for distribution in Period 3. Due to high application submission activity early in this quarter period, we anticipate that the current allocation of funds will exhaust within the next five to seven days,  in advance of the Dec. 31, 2012, application deadline date.  As we continue to receive and approve incoming PD funding requests, we will provide daily updates of the available balance on the M&P PD Fund website  to assist staff with professional development planning.  

If you plan to submit a M&P PD funding request this quarter, please pay special attention to the instructions and documentation requirements outlined on the application form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  

Completed applications received that do not make the final Period 3 funding cut off will be returned to the applicant and will not be eligible for resubmission through this particular funding source.  In such cases, staff should speak with their manager regarding possible options for funding  at the departmental level.

Once the current allocation of funding is exhausted, the M&P PD Fund will close to applications until Jan. 1, 2013, the start of Period 4. At that time, we will begin accepting applications for PD activities that start*within Period 4, Jan 1 – Mar 31, 2013.

M&P tuition fee waivers  and all other centrally administered  professional development funding programs are not affected by this situation.

*PD Activity start date refers to the start (i.e. first day) of a course, conference, workshop, membership start/ renewal date, subscription start/ renewal date.  In the case of a PD activity without a defined start date (such as book purchase or self-paced online course enrollment), it refers to the purchase date as noted on the receipt.
