Take Care of Your Health: UBC Suicide Awareness Day

 

As supporters, frontline workers, colleagues, friends, and family, a suicide can impact us in different ways. While helping others, be sure that you are taking good care of your mental health as well. If you are experiencing issues in the workplace contact AAPS for a confidential appointment.

If you are in a crisis:

If you have signed up for the UBC Benefits Plan, you and registered dependents have 100% coverage for visits to registered clinical counsellors, psychologists, and social workers up to $2,500 per year. You do not need a doctor’s referral. For more info see your paramedical benefits.

Get Training

UBC HR offers a range of mental health trainings including Suicide Prevention and Mental Health First Aid. The Canadian Mental Health Association has a number of community programs and resources. There are also a number of professional development programs offered by AAPS, UBC HR, and Extended Learning that may help you to become a more aware and supportive manager and leader.

Create a Healthy Work Community

We can help each other maintain good mental health through small actions. Slowing down, taking breaks, getting outside, stepping away from technology, being social and inclusive with people at work, and practising appropriate patience and empathy. You can model good behaviour to others at work and home. Here are some resources:
