2014 Collective Bargaining Update #3

Dear AAPS Members,

I wanted to provide you with a brief update on collective bargaining. As outlined in an earlier update, AAPS and UBC commenced bargaining on June 11, 2014, and we had a number of bargaining sessions before adjourning for the summer. Though we had several dates scheduled for September AAPS asked to reschedule those dates as a result of unforeseen circumstances.

Our next scheduled dates are October 9, 10, and October 24, 2014. The parties will schedule more sessions as needed to conclude an agreement. UBC and AAPS have agreed to have mediator Irene Holden act as a facilitator in bargaining to help the parties achieve an agreement. As noted in an earlier update, the discussion in bargaining, thus far, has been somewhat difficult as a result of a number of ongoing challenges in the relationship between AAPS and UBC. However, both parties are committed to achieving an agreement in a timely manner and we are confident that Ms. Holden’s appointment will assist us in that regard.

I will apprise you of further developments as well as full details of any tentative settlement. Once a settlement is reached, all members will have the opportunity to vote on the new agreement.

Yours Sincerely,

Michael Conlon

Chief Negotiator
