PROGRAM SUMMARY

Universities tend to be comprised of highly complex and political environments where multiple stakeholders have different agendas, making it challenging for professional staff to get things done.  Navigating through this maze effective requires managers to approach their work in strategic and sensitive ways. In this highly interactive session, attendees will learn how to increase their ability to influence others in a highly political context.

WHY AAPS IS OFFERING THIS SESSION

Well-versed managers and leaders can make a significant impact on a positive workplace experience for all members of the team. Many AAPS members have requested more management and leadership topics to improve their skillset. Our hope is that by offering sessions like these, we help to improve the workplace experience for all AAPS members.

ABOUT YOUR FACILITATOR

Daniel Skarlicki is a faculty member and the Edgar F. Kaiser Chair of Organizational Behavior at the Sauder School of Business. He is a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He has over twenty-five years of managerial, consulting, and training experience with organizations such as Government of Canada, Business Objects (Shanghai), The City of Calgary Police, The Government of Ontario, The Canadian Psychological Association, Cathay Pacific Airways, Petroleum Helicopters Inc., Phizer, YMCA, TELUS,  Roland Berger Consultants, VanCity,  Earls Restaurant, and Glaxo, Inc. He received his PhD from the University of Toronto. He recently received the Sauder Outstanding Researcher Award and the CGA Master Teaching Award at UBC. He is a Visiting Professor at HEC in Paris. He has taught in executive programs around the world, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Chile, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Taiwan, and China. Professor Skarlicki received the Western Academy of Management’s 2000 Ascendant Scholar Award. His research focuses on the effect of justice in the workplace and leadership mindfulness. His papers are widely published in top business and psychology journals.
