Program Summary

We all face them: those performance conversations where you have to give critical feedback. When you think about those dreaded conversations you feel like you have a pit in your stomach, and you spend countless hours worrying and agonizing over how to approach the “performance” conversation. This workshop will review the most important tools to successfully prepare and deliver constructive feedback in a way that your message gets heard and understood, and helps you build rapport. You will also learn some nuggets to help you receive constructive feedback with curiosity and grace so you can not only learn from it but set the stage for more open and honest communication with your team.

This interactive workshop hits the highlights of what you need to know, including real-life tools, constructive feedback prep sheets, and we will even practice delivering constructive feedback (and receiving some too) to set you up for success. Come to this workshop prepared with a performance conversation in mind to get the maximum benefits out of this workshop. 

We will cover:

  • Preparing for your constructive feedback conversation using the constructive feedback prep sheet
  • How to deliver your constructive feedback in a way that reduces defensiveness
  • Common pitfalls and solutions when giving constructive feedback
  • Key nuggets to help you really benefit from being on the receiving end of constructive feedback

This session is designed for Managers with direct reports. We have designed this session based on member feedback. You told us that giving constructive feedback was important, but challenging and stressful (particullarly giving performance-related feedback). We hope this session with give you the tools to give confident feedback will help your team and your colleagues. We hope that the hands-on practice will make the process less stressful.

About Your Facilitator

A sought-after litigation lawyer with 14 years under her belt, Diane A. Ross believed she was a communication expert; that is, until she learned that her guns-blazing communication style that won case after case in the courtroom was actually damaging the relationships in the rest of her life. This realization was the beginning of over 10 years of working to uncover the secrets of effective communication in times of conflict. Diane devoured research, trained in Advanced Negotiation and Mediation at Harvard Law School, became a Certified Executive Coach and, in 2013, published her first book, The Elephant in the Office: Super-Simple Strategies for Difficult Conversations at Work. Today, she is proud to be sharing her easy-to-implement tools with hundreds of people and organizations through webinars, speaking eventsand www.ElephantConversations.com.
