Program Summary

Financial planning is a very personal and often conflict-laden process. Each individual and family has a unique set of circumstances. Every new article or book seems to say something different. How do we sort through the chafe and the grain? How do we take control of our financial lives to achieve our goals?

This seminar will look at several key truths and general misunderstandings that seem to plague the financial industry and the planning paradigm. We will examine fundamental processes, the wealth continuum, modern concepts and the architecture of financial planning that underlies all successful investing.

Instructor Bio

Tracy Theemes has a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology. She is a Certified Financial Planner, insurance licensed and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. She is also a Financial Divorce Specialist.

Before becoming a financial advisor Tracy spent 10 years in management with an international play equipment company.  She authored a book on outdoor play for children and travelled extensively in her role as head of the North American R & D department advocating for the needs of children in outdoor urban environments. She founded, then sold, a specialty children’s furnishing company based in the US.  Prior to co-founding Sophia Financial Group in 2009, Tracy worked as a financial advisor with Smith Barney, a US brokerage firm and after returning to Canada with a large bank owned investment firm.

Tracy was recently nominated for the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Education and the Association for Women in Finance award for Excellence in Business. Her book The Financially Empowered Woman:  Everything you want to know about your money will be published April 22, 2013.
