AAPS Board of Directors: Call for Nominations


Dear AAPS Members,

Would you like to make a difference in your workplace?

If you want to ensure that UBC is a work environment that supports employees and their families, please consider running for the AAPS Board of Directors.

By joining the AAPS Board of Directors you can apply your professional, leadership, and community building skills to improve the employee experience for all AAPS members.

As an AAPS Board member you will gain valuable institutional knowledge, strategic leadership experience, and grow your professional network. You will engage with members and issues across all UBC’s campuses and worksites. You will influence senior leadership at UBC and work towards making substantive employee relations and contract changes for AAPS members.

We would like to encourage all members who are committed to employee rights to strongly consider running for the Board. If you have questions, please contact your Executive Director Joey Hansen. AAPS is committed to working with members, regardless of your work location, to ensure you can fully participate in Board activities.

Nominations for the AAPS 2018/2019 Board of Directors are now open. The deadline for nominations is 4:00pm on Monday, October 1, 2018.

Nominees are being sought for the following positions:

  • President
  • 1st Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Member at Large (3 positions)

If you wish to be a candidate for the AAPS Board of Directors, please follow these two steps:

  1. Submit the following information to Christie Stephenson, AAPS Electoral Officer.
  • Full Name
  • UBC email address
  • UBC phone number
  • AAPS Board position you are running for
  1. Ask an AAPS colleague to second your nomination by sending an email to the AAPS Electoral Officer.

When the Electoral Officer has received both the nomination and the seconder, you will receive a confirmation email.

Please be advised that the AAPS Electoral Officer must receive both the nomination and the seconder by 4:00pm on Monday, October 1, 2018. Your seconder must be a current member of AAPS.

Joining the AAPS Board of Directors provides an opportunity to get more involved in your workplace and connect with fellow members. Whether you are a senior member of the AAPS community able to share your leadership skills and institutional knowledge or a newer member able to share your professional expertise, the AAPS Board of Directors offers a rewarding opportunity to improve the employee work experience at UBC.

Time Commitment

Each position is a two-year term.

The time commitment for the AAPS Board of Directors is two business meetings per month. Board meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 11am-1pm. Meetings are held in the AAPS Office at Point Grey Campus. Lunch is provided.

Board members can also participate via conference call, and AAPS will work with members who are interested in travelling to Point Grey to attend meetings. If you have questions about time commitment or the distance, please contact Joey Hansen.

Board members must also commit to a day-long board retreat on Monday, November 19, 2018.

Typically Board members also participate as representatives on committees or work on particular issues as time and interest permits. 


All AAPS members in good standing are eligible to run for the AAPS Board of Directors. Please note that you may not nominate nor second more than one candidate for any given position. (Article IV)

The elections for the AAPS Board of Directors will be held online from Thursday, October 4, 2018 to Thursday, October 25, 2018. All eligible AAPS members will be emailed a voting notice on Thursday, October 4.

The 2018/2019 AAPS Board of Directors will be introduced at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the AMS Nest at 12:00pm and via webcast.
