The M&P Staff PD Fund is open for 2019/2020



The M&P Staff PD Fund is open for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.

The M&P Staff PD Fund is for your self-directed professional development activities related to your job and career at UBC. Your manager/department does not have the right to direct the use of these funds.

The M&P PD Fund (LOA #3)  is an annual pool of money for all AAPS members available on a first-come-first-served basis. You may use to use up to $550 per a fiscal year so long as there is money in the fund.

You can access funding for your professional development activities regardless of the fiscal or calendar year they take place. But receipts must be submitted within 60 days of purchase to be reimbursed.

UBC HR oversees the administration of the M&P Staff PD Fund and can answer your questions on qualifying activities and the reimbursement process. The guidelines are available on their website.

Some examples of activities that members use PD Funds for:

  • Courses
  • Workshops
  • Conferences (registration fee, travel, accommodation)
  • Memberships to professional associations that are not required for your job
  • Certifications not required for your job
  • Books
  • Coaching (coach requires specific certification)

While AAPS has made significant gains during the last round of bargaining to increase the fund, it typically runs out before the end of the fiscal year (usually January/February).

If you would like to see the level of the fund or how much you have used, you can log into your UBC management system portal.

If you are denied PD Funding by UBC or your manager refuses to sign-off on your document for reimbursement, please contact AAPS for assistance.
