Nominations are open for the AAPS Board of Directors

Nominees are being sought for the following positions:

  • 2nd Vice-President (2-year term)
  • Treasurer (2-year term)
  • Member at Large (3 positions, 2 year-term)
  • Bi-Election Member at Large (1 position, 1 year-term)

If you are committed to employee wellbeing and supporting staff colleagues at UBC, please consider running for the AAPS Board of Directors.

As an AAPS Board member you will gain valuable institutional insight and strategic leadership experience. You will engage with a wide range of employee workplace issues across all of UBC’s departments and locations. You will work towards making substantive employee relations and contract changes for AAPS members at UBC.

The deadline for nominations is 11:59pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

If you wish to be a candidate for the AAPS Board of Directors, please follow these two steps:

  1. Submit the following information to Jonathan Easey, AAPS Electoral Officer at the email address aaps.nominations@ubc.ca
  • Full Name
  • UBC email address
  • UBC phone number
  • The AAPS Board position you are running for
  • If you are running for a Member at Large position, you must specify if it is for the 2 year-term or 1-year term
  1. Ask an AAPS colleague to second your nomination by emailing the AAPS Electoral Officer at the email address aaps.nominations@ubc.ca. Please add Seconder at the end of the subject line

When the Electoral Officer has received both the nomination and the Seconder’s email, you will receive a confirmation email.

Please be advised that the AAPS Electoral Officer must receive both the nomination and the Seconder’s email by 11:59pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Your Seconder must be a current member of AAPS.

Time Commitment

The time commitment for the AAPS Board of Directors includes review and responses to documents and arising issues, along with up to two business meetings per month.

Board meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 11am-1pm.

The Board is currently meeting on Zoom.

Board members must also commit to an annual day-long board retreat. (The timeframe of this event may be adjusted this year due to COVID-19.)

Board members also can participate as representatives on committees or work on particular issues as time and interest permits. 

Eligibility

All AAPS members in good standing are eligible to run for the AAPS Board of Directors. Please note that you may not nominate nor second more than one candidate for any given position. (AAPS Bylaws Article IV 6.b.)

Important Dates

The nomination period for the 2021/2022 AAPS Board of Directors runs from September 14 to September 28, 2021.

Should the number of nominations trigger an election for the AAPS Board of Directors, the election will be held online from Tuesday, October 5, 2021 to Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

All eligible AAPS members will be emailed a voting notice on Tuesday, October 5.

The 2021/2022 AAPS Board of Directors will be introduced at the Annual General Meeting on Friday, October 29, 2021. The AGM will be held on the Zoom platform.
