Now in Effect: The 2019 Collective Agreement between AAPS and UBC

Dear AAPS Members,

I am pleased to announce that the UBC Board of Governors has ratified the new Collective Agreement. We appreciate how quickly the University was able to ratify the new agreement.

The 2019-2022 Collective Agreement between AAPS and the University is now in effect.

We will soon update our website with the new Collective Agreement. In the meantime, please refer to the Summary of Changes and FAQs on our website. You can also view a recording of one of our info sessions on the new Collective Agreement. Please email the AAPS Office for the link.

Please contact the AAPS Office with questions that you have about the new Collective Agreement.

Many of you are interested to know when the general wage increases will be implemented. The University will be announcing those timelines and posting the new salary matrixes in the coming weeks. Increases from July 1, 2019 and July 1, 2020 will be retroactive.

Along with the GWI:

  • The University will be implementing the $500,000 increase to the M&P Staff PD Fund

  • Members planning to take parental leave have access to Supplementary Employment Benefits

  • Members who sign new term appointments as of June 1, 2020 will fall under the new Collective Agreement

  • You will have access to 1 paid day for emergency use

  • For those wanting to schedule time away for religious and culture observances, there is now new language to support you

In the coming months we will have more information regarding how the new Collective Agreement will be implemented, particularly for members who currently have term appointments with UBC. We will email members with updates as they become available.

I want to thank both bargaining committees for their work during this unique negotiations process.

I also want to thank the AAPS Board of Directors and you, AAPS members, for your continued feedback, engagement, and support during this round of collective bargaining.

Sincerely,

Andrea Han, AAPS President
