UBC Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment Declarations

It’s that time of year again. Time for many AAPS members to sign UBC’s Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment Declarations.

The declaration is a common practice of the University that they have expanded over the last couple of years to include many AAPS members. If you are asked to sign a Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment Declaration for the first time and have questions, please contact AAPS for a confidential conversation.

We can review your specific situation so that you have an understanding of what you do and do not need to disclose. Each situation is different depending on the work you do for the University and what you do outside of work.

You are also invited to talk to us if

  • If you are being asked to sign the declaration again and something in your work or personal circumstances has changed
  • If you think you may have filled out the form incorrectly
  • If you have any questions about the Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment Policy
  • If you have concerns about how the policy is being applied in your department
  • If you have been told that you can no longer engage in a personal activity

Last year we fielded more than 900 inquiries regarding these declarations. The Office of the University Counsel appreciated that members were well prepared when filling out their forms as it made the process much more efficient.
