Program Summary

We negotiate constantly. Negotiating when there is a power imbalance can make these situations seem daunting.  Many of us feel anxious and uncomfortable when we think about negotiating with our managers or our coworkers.

This professional development session will focus on giving you the strategies, skills and practice to successfully negotiate a variety of workplace situations.


You will learn to:

  • Use a framework to prepare for negotiations
  • Use powerful listening skills to fully explore all concerns and opportunities
  • Be clear about the real issue and your goals for the negotiation
  • Manage emotions and defensiveness to keep the negotiations on track
  • Recognize and avoid common negotiation pitfalls
  • Confidently wrap up negotiations

You will learn through:

  • Group discussions
  • Theory bursts
  • Role-playing exercises

Who Should Attend

AAPS members who would like to improve their basic workplace negotiating skills or who would like to learn Diane’s negotiating method. Presenter Bio

Diane draws on her experience as a busy lawyer, professional speaker, overcommitted mother and executive coach to teach others her super simple strategies for having difficult conversations. She has tested out these proven communication skills with incredible results in her own life. She wants to share her secrets with you so that you will have the confidence and the skill to handle any difficult conversation! Get what you want – at work, at home, and in life!

Diane graduated in business and law from the University of British Columbia.
