Breaking Patterns of Procrastination (encore)

Program Description
Putting things off to the last minute? Having a hard time starting a project? Or is it hard to finish and actually put a close to something you are working on? This workshop is here to help you procrastinate less and get more done. Contrary to what most people think, procrastination is not fundamentally a time management problem, which is why just trying to manage your schedule better is limited in effectiveness in changing this pattern of behaviour.
What You Will Learn
- The factors that drive and maintain procrastination
- The psychology of avoidance
- Effective, concrete strategies to help you put a major dent in procrastination patterns

Participation
- The session will run from 10am-12pm
- The session is open to AAPS members only
- The session will be held on the Zoom meeting platform
- Video and your active participation are strongly encouraged during the sessions
- We will be using breakout rooms
- The Zoom sessions will not be recorded, but a pre-recording will be made available to all registered participants
- We will have auto-captions, or a live captioner can be available on request

This session is designed for AAPS members who would like to gain a better understanding of the psychology behind procrastination. About Your Facilitator
Alex Abdel-Malek, MSW, RCC, is a psychotherapist, critical incident specialist, professional trainer, and speaker. He is devoted to understanding how meaningful choices affect our health and wellbeing. In addition to his own clinical practice, Alex is a sessional instructor at Simon Fraser University. He has over 25 years of clinical teaching experience and has developed programs for numerous public sector organizations, including the CBC, Crown Counsel of BC, Thompson Rivers University, and UBC.
To Register
Before registering, please consider your availability to be there for the entire session and your interest in participating in breakout rooms, activities, and discussions. Technical issues arise, but not communicating during the session creates confusion and impacts other group members.
If you prefer to just listen, please do not register for the live Zoom sessions. Register for the recording – it’s why we made it!
You will be sent a confirmation with the meeting link in a Zoom confirmation email. If you do not receive this email, please email aaps.pd@ubc.ca.
If things come up and you are no longer able to participate in the session, simply cancel using the cancellation link in your Zoom confirmation email. We will automatically send those who cancel a link to the recording.
