CUPE 2278 Strike Vote – What you need to know

Dear AAPS Members,

Last week CUPE 2278, the union representing over 3,500 UBC academic workers, including teaching assistants, tutors, markers, exam invigilators, instructors, and graduate academic assistants, held a strike vote from September 21 to September 25, 2026. They received a 95.4% mandate for a strike, and while they have not given 72 hours’ notice of a strike, they have the legal right to do so.
