Coaching Conversations for Professionals

In this hands-on session, you will learn practical coaching skills that you can use in your day to day work. You will learn how to create a designed alliance, which is a group agreement on how you want to be and work together. You will also learn about the three levels of listening and asking powerful questions. You will also learn the difference between coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring as well as collectively brainstorm practical places to use coaching skills right away.

What You will Learn

  • How to create a designed alliance
  • 3 levels of listening
  • Asking powerful questions
  • The differences between coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring

How You will Learn

  • Experiential, hands-on learning
  • Active practice in pair coaching-style conversations in breakout rooms
  • Facilitated debrief to help land the learning in a large group

Audience – Professionals (February 26)

This session is geared towards Professionals and individual contributors, such as coordinators and specialists, who would like to incorporate coaching skills into their conversations will teammates, colleagues, and leadership.

Participant Expectations for the Live Zoom Sessions

1. To attend the full session (we’ll be spending time in pairs in breakout rooms so late arrivals, early exits, and popping out partway through will negatively impact the pair experience)

2. To participate using audio and video (we appreciate that there are sometimes technical issues, but please be in a space where you can at least use audio. If that doesn’t work for you, please sign up for the recorded version)

3. To actively participate in the breakout room conversations, group activities, and personal reflection exercises

4. Be open and engaged with the content of the session, even if it doesn’t immediately resonate with you. We encourage you to try things out

5. To be professional, kind, and courteous to fellow participants and practice patience, confidentiality, and inclusivity
