Focus Areas: Introduction to how collective bargaining works

Program Summary

This introductory session will provide members with a foundational understanding of how collective bargaining works especially in the public sector. This session is an important resource if you have had questions about how the AAPS collective bargaining process differs from other kinds of negotiations you might be familiar with, how the AAPS and UBC bargaining teams determine the issues that are discussed, what kinds of information is shared with the membership during the process, and how we come to a tentative agreement that is sent to you for review.

The session will explore:

  • Collective bargaining principles
  • The different stages of the bargaining process
  • The role of AAPS
  • The impact of collective bargaining in your workplace

By attending, you will gain a better understanding of the role you play in the bargaining process, learn what to expect at each stage, and how you can contribute to strengthening AAPS’s collective voice. Whether you are new to the process or just want to deepen your understanding, this session is a valuable opportunity to get involved and learn about collective bargaining.
