The Me in Change (new)
Program Summary
Change is happening constantly at UBC, whether it is a major institutional project like the Integrated Renewal Program, a change in the direction of leadership in your department, or a change in your seating arrangement in your office. These changes affect each of us in a different way, and elicit a different response from us depending on how the change is managed.
This workshop offers an opportunity for self-development, in addition to learning about change processes and how they affect your work context more broadly. Be prepared to reflect on your past and current professional experiences to clarify how you want to show up amidst change.
Audience
This session will be delivered from the perspective of each AAPS member as an employee of the University. We will be looking at how to develop a personal change plan for yourself as an individual to help you navigate the uncertainty, chaos, and discomfort that can be a change process.
Not sure if this session is right for you? Please contact AAPS Member Services Officer Sarah Muff for more information.
What You Will Learn
- Recognize that change is messy and that the art of change is not always handled well
- Discern that different types of change bring up differing degrees of resistance
- Appreciate what teams and organizations can go through amidst change, and how this informs your experience as an individual
- Identify the range of ways that you can “show up” amidst change, and how you can apply that learning to the current change that you are in
- Develop a personal map to locate the change that you’re currently in, determine how you want to show up, and the approach you want to adopt
How You Will Learn
- Small and large group discussions
- Theory bursts to inform discussion
- Self-reflection
