PROGRAM SUMMARY

You cannot help but notice the diversity in age around us. From those just entering the workforce to those in mid-career to those on the threshold of retirement, each of these demographics brings their own perspectives and impacts to your work environment. In fact, it’s not unusual to find all five generations present in many situations.

Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z each have their own values, expectations, habits, and work styles. If you fail to acknowledge and develop strategies to actively work within this diversity, you will find yourself facing conflict, inefficiency, and negativity, all eventually leading to a dysfunctional work environment.

In this power-packed and fun program, you’ll learn not just about the similarities and differences between each generation, but perhaps more importantly, tools to consciously and deliberately adapt your approach to communicate with, motivate, and lead today's multi-generational work teams.

The focus of this program is on celebrating the differences to capitalize on the unique strengths that each demographic brings to the workplace.  If you work with other people, then you’ll find value in this program.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • The common characteristics of each generation and the enormous strengths each can bring to an organization

  • The individual value filters that get in the way of understanding different generations

  • The current workplace issues that have arisen from generational differences

  • Real-life examples of what happens when you ignore generational differences

  • Specific ways to draw out the best from every person, no matter what their generational demographic

  • How your leadership and communication style will improve if you adapt for generational differences

HOW YOU WILL LEARN

Expect high-energy and interaction, with concepts illustrated through a blend of examples, anecdotes, analogies, humour, demonstrations, and activities.

WHY AAPS IS OFFERING THIS SESSION

We have heard from AAPS members about the different challenges you face in the workplace when it comes to generational differences. It could be a long-service member not feeling values for their work experience or institutional knowledge, or maybe a member of the millennial generation in a new management role having trouble being heard. Our goal with this session is to celebrate and capitalize on the benefits of a multi-generational workplace.

If you are experiencing issues in the workplace regarding your age or any other form of discrimination, please contact the AAPS Office for a confidential conversation.
