Program Summary

What to do when everyone wants something, but there is only so much of you to go around? The modern workplace often means juggling multiple demands on your time and energy. In addition, you may feel pulls from your other roles and responsibilities, such as being a parent or family member, additional professional or volunteer work, or being in a relationship. Boundary skills are essential to helping you manage the competing demands on your time and energy.

Setting boundaries is the art and practice of what we say “yes” and “no” to. Boundaries have an integral connection to the flow of our relational lives at work as well as our personal lives. Without clarity of your own boundaries and the skills for communicating them, your life, time, and space are run by others. Here’s an opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills for the better!

This session will help you develop your boundary setting skills and help you maintain a healthier balance in your life. The workshop begins with clearly defining what boundaries are. Then we’ll move into practical ideas and application of boundary strategies for a healthy life, with a focus on applied experiences in the workplace.

About Your Host

AAPS is your professional association and labour relations organization. Along with our work negotiating your workplace terms and conditions and supporting you individually with employment contract-related questions and issues, we also aim to provide AAPS membership with educational opportunities through the AAPS Professional Development Program.

The program is designed to give members a chance to connect with colleagues from different departments, units, and locations, share experiences, and support one another. The program also gives time and space to consider the evolution of the workplace and adapt to changing work environments and career needs. We host topics in areas such as management and leadership, interpersonal skills, workplace skills, personal development, advocacy, and organized labour. We use a mixture of in-person, live online, and asynchronous learning structures.

The AAPS PD Program is staffed by AAPS Member Services Officer for Professional Development, Sarah Muff. Sarah oversees the design, delivery, and administration of the program, as well as being the onsite program manager. She works in consultation with external facilitators, colleagues, and the AAPS Board of Directors to develop and adapt relevant workplace content to meet the needs of AAPS members.
