Program Summary

Year Compass is a great tool to look back and take stock on the previous year and look ahead to plan the new year. Through this live Zoom AAPS Professional Development Session, facilitator Tara Robertson will guide us through a series of questions that will help us to begin to recognize patterns and begin to envision the year ahead. Take some time to set yourself up for a fulfilling year with this process.

You are welcome to check out the questions in advance if you like, they are available on the Year Compass website. Downloading the booklet is free and you do not need to enter your information to access it.

Kindly note we are only doing one live Zoom version of this session. If you can't join us but are interested in to process, you can dowlnoad the Year Compass for free on their website.

You can choose the level of interaction you have with other people during this session. You have the options to:

  • Go off camera and work on your own
  • Work with some interaction with others
  • Choose to go into breakout rooms to talk through your reflections and connect with people

The first hour we'll look back and take stock of 2025. We'll have a short break (dancing will be encouraged) and then spend the second hour dreaming and planning 2026.

About Your Host

AAPS is your professional association and labour relations organization. Along with our work negotiating your workplace terms and conditions and supporting you individually with employment contract-related questions and issues, we also aim to provide AAPS membership with educational opportunities through the AAPS Professional Development Program.

The program is designed to give members a chance to connect with colleagues from different departments, units, and locations, share experiences, and support one another. The program also gives time and space to consider the evolution of the workplace and adapt to changing work environments and career needs. We have a strong focus on self-leadership and host topics in areas such as management and leadership, interpersonal skills, workplace skills, personal development, advocacy, and organized labour. We use a mixture of in-person, live online, and asynchronous learning structures.

The AAPS PD Program is staffed by AAPS Member Services Officer for Professional Development, Sarah Muff. Sarah oversees the design, delivery, and administration of the program, as well as being the onsite program manager. She works in consultation with external facilitators, colleagues, and the AAPS Board of Directors to develop and adapt relevant workplace content to meet the needs of AAPS members.
