AAPS Memo: Update on the 2024 AGM Member-Submitted Motion regarding reviewing assets in the UBC Staff Pension Plan
Dear AAPS Members,
As we approach this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), we wanted to provide you an update on the member-submitted motion that was passed during the 2024 AGM.
As you may recall, the member-submitted motion was adopted following a majority vote from members present at the meeting.
One of the resolutions in the motion included a directive for AAPS to review assets and investments in the UBC Staff Pension Plan (SPP) for companies profiting from human rights violations and apartheid in Palestine.
In keeping with the motion, AAPS brought on a researcher to look into the companies on three different boycott, divestment, and sanctions lists that UBC’s SPP has invested money in.
Attached is a summary of the findings of the report. You can also view this summary report on our website. If you would like to view the full report, you are welcome to email aaps.communications@ubc.ca for a copy.
By conducting the research and sharing the findings with the membership, we have fulfilled the directive outlined in the 2024 member-submitted motion.
We do want to apologize for the delay in completing this work. AAPS experienced staffing shortages for a significant part of the year, resulting in unavoidable delays. We truly appreciate your understanding.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We thank you for your continued engagement.
Sincerely,
Lauren (Ilaanaay) Casey
President
