Clarification on Merit
Dear AAPS Members,
We hope you are all well. We have noticed some confusion amongst members regarding merit, so we would like to take a moment to clarify.
In April, we sent a memo to members regarding merit, stating that merit-eligible members will be receiving a 1.5% merit increase retroactive to July 1, 2025. This is the merit increase for the period of July 2024 to June 2025, as that is the merit increase that the University paused. This amount did not apply to merit earned for your work in the past year. Merit for July 2025 to June 2026 will be assessed according to the merit pay provisions in the Collective Agreement that was ratified in May.
The University is currently developing guidelines to send to managers regarding merit. We do not expect there to be an update on this until the fall. Merit will be applied retroactively to July 1, 2026 once it is awarded.
We understand that some members are currently receiving performance reviews and are concerned that aspects of their performance review may impact their merit award. We are currently unable to assist with those concerns until the University has provided guidelines for merit and merit has been awarded. If you are unhappy with your merit increase once it is applied, please contact our office for assistance.
Sincerely,
Joey Hansen
Executive Director
